5% wins 48HFP award!

Team Cat Fly attended the 2018 Asheville 48 Hour Film Project awards ceremony on July 11th in recognition for the short film 5%, which won Best Use of Character, thanks to the spirited portrayal by Daniel Ballard for Brad Pasteur, insurance agent.

Cat Fly also received nominations for Best Directing, honoring the film’s director Madeleine Richardson, as well as a nomination for Best Cinematography, which highlights the artistic eye of our Director of Photography, Brittany Jackson.

COMPASSION part 1 production

COMPASSION is a short film anthology in three parts, written and directed by Jeff Corpening, and produced by Corpening Media. Betsy Cardwell and myself joined Jeff as Producers, and have been diligently working to produce this anthology over the last six months. Part 1 entered and wrapped production on Saturday, June 23rd where we filmed in Asheville, North Carolina.

On set today with an amazing crew! #compassionmovie #avlfilm #ncfilm

The day was hot and long, but we successfully captured everything we needed. We had an excellent crew, including the lead actor Victor Hough, Madeleine (1st AD), David Craig (DP), Sam Schumate (1st AC), Brittany Jackson (2nd AC), Robert Gowan (Sound Recordist), Kira Bursky (VFX Supervisor), Sam Zeilender (PA), Askar McMahon (PA), Sophie Berry (BTS photographer), and our gravel transportation team of Jonah Goldwag, Phil Koch, Daniel Ballard, and Mark Sundara.

An amazing day yesterday on our #compassionmovie here in #asheville – so much talent!

COMPASSION Part 1: “Knowledge” is now in post-production. Part 2: “Empathy” and Part 3: “Action” are both next on the slate, and will be produced over the upcoming year.

5% // 48 Hour Film Project 2018

Team Cat Fly participated in the Asheville 48 Hour Film Project once again, and produced 5%, a sci-fi short film about a girl who experiences a brain injury, and uses her memory insurance. Our competition required three elements that all teams must incorporate into the film: 1) character: Brad or Brianna Pasteur, Insurance Agent, 2) line: “You forgot something.”, and 3) prop: a dollar bill. You will find that these elements highly informed the plot of our film.

5% starred Cat Wityk, Jeff Alexander, Josh Payne, Dana Seals, and Daniel Ballard as Brad Pasteur, Insurance Agent. Our team included Madeleine Richardson (Writer / Director), Brittany Jackson (Dir. of Photography), Sam Shumate (1st AC / Color Correction), myself Ted Kendrick (Writer / Producer), with Laura Hackett (Writer), Mark Sundara (Locations Manager / Producer), Kenny Stempien (Sound Recordist), Rachel Summers (Art Director), Kat Skinner (PA), Hamish Horton (Editor), Galen Stickels (Soundtrack Composer), and Ted Marks (Sound Engineer).

Special thanks to locations AC Hotel, Asheville Pinball Museum, Battery Park Book Exchange, the Flatiron Building, and World Coffee, as well as Asheville School of Film, The Actor’s Center, Cory the Gardener, dUMB, Takeout Central, and The Joes, just for being awesome. The Asheville 48HFP awards ceremony will be held on July 11th at the Fine Arts Theater, and I don’t mean to boast, but Cat Fly expects a few award nominations because our movie was just that good.

THE REPLICA RAID II // production

THE REPLICA RAID II short film went into production on Sunday, May 20th, 2018, and everything was going on schedule until the infamous WNC summer rain interrupted the afternoon. Despite the setback, the sequel to my 2017 experimental project THE REPLICA RAID took some big steps towards actualization. We have a second day of production set for July where we will create the final elements.

The day would not have been a success without my excellent crew, particularly Thomas Goddard (Dir. of Photography), Cat Wityk (Line Producer), Madeleine Richardson (1st AD), Brittany Jackson (1st AC), Braethun Bharathae-Lane (Sound), Ethan Saut (Stunt Driver), Haley Martin (Location Manager), Betsabe Fregoso Lee and Joey Lee with Peak of the Mountain Productions (Drone Operators), and Production Assistants: Daniel Ballard, Erich Reinhard, and Garin Wilson of Wilson’s Productions who captured the amazing behind-the-scenes photos below.

Be on the lookout for more about THE REPLICA RAID II over the next few months, and you never know…maybe we’ll see THE REPLICA RAID III sometime in 2019.
