POP-POP IS DEAD by Coki Productions, which began as a 60 minute dramatic comedy feature film, is now available to stream online with Vimeo in an updated web-series format that chops the feature into four episodes running about 15 minutes each. The film premiered in August 2018 at the Buckhead Theater in Atlanta, and enjoyed a successful festival run over the year with screenings at LA Comedy Film Festival, Winter Film Awards in New York City, and a special encore event at Cat Fly Film Festival 2019. Binge watch the entire web-series now!
COMPASSION, the short film anthology written and directed by Jeff Corpening from Corpening Media, completed principal photography on the final of the three parts in mid-August 2019. Pre-production had begun over a year prior in February 2018, when I began to guide production on the first installment, which starred Victor Hough with cinematography by David Craig in a setting that challenged a land developer to look past the present. Betsy Cardwell was another Producer on the project, and the glue that kept consistency and continuity in all three parts.
Part III underwent production in November 2018, and starred Emily McDaniel and Camila Escobar in which a WWII stageplay strangely turns into reality. Part II was filmed last, and featured Lavin Cuddihee and Melanie Stauss in an fairy tale trial which looked to establish empathy between man and beast. Both parts II and III were helmed by cinematographer Brad Hoover, head instructor at the Asheville School of Film. Check out the teaser trailer for Parts I and III below!
THE REPLICA RAID II experimental short film is nearing completion with just another few weeks of post-production before it’s ready to head out on the festival circuit. In the meantime, the film needed a poster, which I designed myself. Hopefully I will add a few laurels to the poster before all is said and done.
That 828 Vibe podcast, hosted by Julio Ortiz and Kenny Stempien, had me on to talk Artificial Ink Creative. I plugged Watchtower Database, 12th Level Intellects, STEAMPUNK EDDIE, and POP-POP IS DEAD. We also chat THE LION KING trailer, and dissect my favorite song from the original soundtrack, which naturally, I chose “Hakuna Matata.” It means, “No worries.” Listen to the episode at the link below:

THE REPLICA RAID II wrapped principle photography on Saturday, July 7th. We were lucky to have the same overcast weather as the first day of shooting on May 20th, so the continuity of the film should remain in act, despite production being a month and a half apart. I don’t recommend approaching filmmaking that way, but when you are working with a limited budget and crew, sometimes you must succumb to strict scheduling. We redid some minor car sequences, and then the fun stuff we didn’t get to try last time: playing with colored photography smoke, and handbrake sliding a car into a cul-de-sac. Over and over again. For both.
The short is currently in post, where it is being edited by Madeleine Richardson, also the 1st AD on set. THE REPLICA RAID II is a sequel to my experimental short film THE REPLICA RAID which was filmed in fall 2016, and released in spring 2017, and in itself, a project that I reworked from a concept I first attempted in college.
